About the Program

Our goal is to introduce students to the field of sociology and prepare students to major in sociology upon transfer to a university. Sociology majors enter a wide variety of careers including business, marketing, community services, health services, higher education, law, publishing, social services, and teaching.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to use the sociological imagination to understand your social world. Human beings are largely shaped by the societies in which we live. You will learn how the various elements of society -- family, religion, education, the economy, medicine, law, politics, media, culture and more -- shape our behavior and experiences in life. Marketable skills are also integrated into our courses. Students will improve their skills in critical thinking, written and oral communication, empirical/quantitative analysis, and personal responsibility.

What can I do with this course of study?

Students who follow a Transfer Advising Guide for sociology and complete the AA will be prepared to transfer to a university and major in sociology.
